Alan's Deli: Houston's Hidden Gem for Authentic Chinese BBQ

The BBQ Pork might be my favorite dish in Houston. Simply incredible. They also have some kind of bok choy or broccoli asparagus that is simply incredible. You get great portions and I usually have to add something just to reach the credit card minimum because its so inexpensive. Their other proteins are great too but that BBQ pork is elite.

My family and I came here specifically for some delicious duck and it did not disappoint! The ordering process is easy and the staff is helpful. Their lunch special goes all day so we got several different things to try. Everything was delicious and tasted like someone's mom made it (and I mean that in the best way). It tasted like an authentic home cooked meal. We got a few extra things but we spent $11-$12 per person. It is a cafeteria style counter. You order your meat, they cut it and put it in a box then you point to what sides you want and they box it up for you, you pay and go. It is wheel chair accessible. The place was clean and quiet and the staff was patient with us juggling our 2 kids and taking a minute to decide. We will absolutely be back and are adding this into the rotation of restaurants we go to. The only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is because we would've loved the option to be able to sit and eat.

Very affordable and super delicious! Got 1 lb of roasted pork belly for just $12, and it was really, really good.

You come here for food - not for atmosphere nor for service. And the food was great! Unlike some other reviews, mine wasn’t dry and tasted really good / flavorful. Had Char Siu, duck and chicken. Even the rice was good. Price was very fair for the quality and amount

Alan’s Deli, located in Dun Huang Plaza, has become one of my go-to spots, and after several visits, I can confidently say it’s very good. My favorite dish has to be the roasted duck—it’s incredibly flavorful, with a perfectly crispy skin that complements the tender meat. The sauce pairs wonderfully with the duck, though I’d recommend asking for a bit extra if you’re ordering half a duck, as the standard portion of sauce can feel a bit light. While the menu doesn’t offer a huge variety, you can choose from a selection of vegetables and meats. However, for the price, I think they could offer more value by allowing customers to pick two meats and two veggies instead of just 3. They also have convenient pre-packed items, which are always fresh and a great deal for takeout. The staff at Alan’s Deli are consistently friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. I’ll definitely be returning to try more of their offerings.

Alan's is a quick in and out normally, but lunch and before dinner.. watch out for line that can happen and that starts outside. Where else can you get a massive amount of food for a lunch box for $7.50 now? Not many. When I first went here, a box lunch used to be $5.75 but hey, thats inflation for you. Then again, it has expanded inside its tiny location a lot from before too. There are so much more items here than before. I always grab pig ears here when I'm buying my roasted pork and bbq pork.

Tiny little shop with good food...IF you get it fresh. Otherwise I'm not sure if barely lukewarm meat is good / safe to eat. Nice guy though! Edit: I came back on a Sunday at 1pm and the place was packed! Good fresh food. I ordered A1. Veggies are $1.50 extra.

One of the best places to get char siu, roast pork and roast duck in Houston. Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this hole in the wall their roast meats are top notch. As with other places you order by the pound and they will chop it for you. The roast pork is best enjoyed fresh. It’s just not the same even if you air fry it. They actually have a fairly extensive menu of rice plates with various combinations of meats although I didn’t enjoy the other meat dishes from the pans as much as their main meats. They are located in the back of the shopping center, tucked away kind of out of sight. Parking is notoriously bad as there are a number of popular restaurants with a shared parking lot.
